How do I detail my car?

You’re probably here because you want to learn detailing or someone pointed you here to get some newbie resources. We’ve hand-picked some guides written for newbies with little to no experience.

Step 1: Get your gear

  1. Read the “Beginner’s Buying Guide” to learn what products you’ll need to start detailing. It outlines what to buy if your detailing shelf is empty.
  2. Pick those products from the “Recommended Kits” (or “Recommended Kits (EU)”) to build a shopping list based on your global region. We’ve compiled this list from our community’s favorite products, and it’s updated periodically so you can have a solid start.
  3. Order your shopping list from your favorite vendor or local business. We have sales and coupons posted on our Discord 😉
  4. Share what you ordered on the Discord! Product hauls are great.

Step 2: Your first detail

Follow our “Your First Detail” guide to clean your vehicle inside and out, bumper-to-bumper. Set aside a day for it, break out the cold drinks, and be sure to take photos so you can show off your progress.

Step 3: Share your progress and results

Everyone loves checking out product hauls, new purchases, user reviews, and before/after pics! Hang out with us on the HTAD Discord and share your progress in our show-off forum.

Bonus: Found a scratch or stain?

Now that your vehicle is clean and you’ve been up close to it for a few hours you may notice some dings, scratches, or stains. Use our field guides to diagnose defects and learn about what could be needed for repairs. Not everything can be fixed, but with a little effort you can clear up a lot of paint and interior issues.
